After our night at Kyle of Lochalsh, we went by bus down to Fort William. This was another long journey, again taking us through delightful mountainous vistas. The weather had turned against us, but did not treat us unfairly; the overcast sky merely hid some of the peaks from us.
However, it did mean we lost the opportunity to see Ben Nevis, Britain's tallest mountain and Fort William's impressive neighbour. Still, the local geography gave us itchy feet and we had go out and see something. We wandered through Inverlochy Castle, a smaller ruin than Urquhart Castle, which simply ignited our enthusiasm to brave something a little more adventurous than a flat lochside walk.
So we made an ascent up the rather tame-named Cow Hill, which overlooks Fort William. It offers some stunning views. Look away from Fort William, and you will see the Glen Nevis as shown above, with its formidable gathering of mountains.
