Fort William: Aonach Mor

At Fort William, we also travelled to the nearby Nevis Range centre. The bus journey did give us the best view of Ben Nevis we had on the entire trip. The summit was relatively obscured, but the clouds brushing across its harsh, rocky environment made it look like the maw of some fire-breathing beast, steam spewing from its hungry jaws. I was in no hurry to clamber up its dangerous slopes.

The Nevis Range centre has a gondola that climbs 650 metres up Aonach Mor, one of Ben Nevis' colleagues. The centre is, in fact, pretty good. Even if you're not interested in mountain biking, skiing or any other kill-yourself-with-a-rocky-death activity, there are a couple of walks up there and a decent cafe/restaurant. The views are amazing. This is a shot from the end of one of the walks, facing towards Fort William in the distance.

You can also send postcards from the Nevis Range station at the top and get a special Nevis Range postmark on them - unfortunately, we didn't know that before hand and had already sent them from Fort William. Ah, well. Next time huh?
