03 Nov 2002: Doing Kyoto

A picture

Shojin Ryori

Of course, I had to try out some shojin ryori style food at some point. We stopped at a tofu ryoriya in Sagano, a generally quieter area located in the northwest of Kyoto. Everything was tofu-based and mighty tasty. I may have smarted a little at the highly sweet sauce on the tofu sticks but, by far the best component albeit the simplest, was the yudofu that was to be heated over the coals in the white container you can see in the picture.

Joel's hot Kyoto tip: Don't get confused with shujin ryori, which is prison food.
