28 Jul 2004: New Zealand

Sulphur Calling

And then we lost an entire day. It seems like I was the lucky recipient of some bad food poisoning and I spent the day in bed, on the sofa, and then in bed again. It was a shame because we had planned to go to Waitomo Caves.

Our third day in Rotorua was our last day in Rotorua. I was still pretty weak, but we were in New Zealand to see things not to lie in bed all day and moan. That's what I do in Tokyo. So off we went to see a number of locations, culminating in the spectacular Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. This one takes the prize for best geothermal visuals of 2004. You really started to feel like stuff was going on beneath your feet.

We then departed for Auckland in the evening.
