19 Feb 2005: The Winter Cold

Film Shoot

Earlier this week, there was a lot of activity in the Thames Barrier Park. A few trucks, some cameras, buses bearing the legend "Location Facilities" and lots and lots of children.

I went down to the park cafe and was surprised. Firstly, there were a lot of children inside the cafe as well. Secondly, it had become an extended wardrobe and was full of children's clothes. Someone also had a walkie-talkie. I talked to Ernie, the cafe owner, and he said they were shooting a commercial for some juice drink.

While I read my book and drank my coffee, I overheard a conversation between a mother and her son. She was telling him that he had to look like he's enjoying the drink, even if he doesn't like it. And in one fell swoop, my confidence in the truth of advertising collapsed. It's lies, all lies, I tell you.
