30 Apr 2005: A Sky Clearing

The lifts at the London Wall offices are of these new-fangled automated type, the like of which I'd seen previously during other recent interview adventures.

You request directly the floor you want by using the touch-sensitive control panels that keep silent vigil in the lift lobby. The panel tells you which lift will take you there and you wait for it. You wait and wait.

Incidentally, don't even think about hijacking someone else's lift for your own nefarious purposes. Inside the lift there are no controls except those relating to the door and the all-important emergency alarm. Further to this, if you are persuaded to try to bypass the electronic interface with sophisticated hacking weaponry, machine guns emerge from secret panels and will ask you to desist with the warning, "You have twenty seconds to comply."
