In November, the park called Rikugien was showing off its collection of rust-coloured leaves by illuminating the park late into the evening. The park was swarming with people, a great deal of them with batteries of camera equipment.
It is possible that the trees looked better during the day; it did seem like the coloured light was drowning out the natural colours. I still wonder whether the autumn kouyou is some great tourist con. Do the leaves really turn a beautiful red?
