On our second day we set out on a three-hour walk to Grasmere, a nearby village, by following a path along the River Rothay and then up across Loughrigg Terrace around Loughrigg Fell. Along the way there are a couple of small man-made caves, that is to say, disused quarries. Still, they offer up an interesting sight for anyone willing to venture inside.
The map belows shows our route to Grasmere from Ambleside in red (approximate as I experienced a battery event with the GPS) and back in blue.
