Inverness: Urquhart Castle

And thus, after our hero forsakes the corporate world (for a lengthy two weeks), he engages the Scottish Highlands to discover himself, the meaning of life, countryside and stuff.

We started in Inverness. Inverness sits on the River Ness, hence its Ness-inspired name, and that can only mean Loch Ness is short jaunt away. We travelled down to Urquhart Castle which sits on the shores of the loch. The place is a bit of a ruin now, partly because its final occupiers blew it up on the way out (they forgot to turn the gas off) and then all the locals said, cool free stones, and carried off bits of the stonework to make houses.

Nonetheless, signficant structure remains and 'tis interesting to explore. Plus, the backdrop of Loch Ness and surrounding environs is beautiful. No, I didn't see any bloody monster in the water.
