Our stay in Kyle of Lochalsh was borne out of necessity rather than intent. We wanted to travel down the Kyle line, but there was no way of arranging the journey without having several hours to kill at Kyle of Lochalsh - so we chose to stay just one night at a quiet and pleasant B&B called The Piper's Lodge. After disembarking from the train, we were greeted by the alluring sight of the Isle of Skye across the water.
So we stayed in a small coastal village which feels remote, yet economically healthy. This is partially due to the local naval base which means that even if there are no tourists, the village will still receive paying guests from the sea.
If we return to Scotland for another trip one day, we'll come back here.
