As the September nights drew in, life began to dissolve into a soup of chaos. Squrrels were digging up the gravel in front of our flat. Spiders that eat spiders invaded our rooms and, no matter what we did, kept on coming wave after wave. Cardboard frames that housed new baby-related items blocked doorways and passages. A mouse learnt a route into our the kitchen. The world markets decided enough was enough, killed one of their own - Lehman Brothers - then fled the scene of the crime.
As the birth approached, order drifted farther away.
