03 Nov 2002: Doing Kyoto

A picture

Kiyomizu-dera

One of the more popular temples is Kiyomizu-dera located in East Kyoto. You have to ascend a sloped road by foot to reach it (although I noticed there were plenty of Japanese tourists taking taxis) but it's certainly worth the effort. The views are quite rewarding. Also note that if you're looking for souvenirs then you're sure to find satisfactory items in the streets nearby. They may not be genuine but who cares.

Joel's hot Kyoto tip: Try to time your pictures between the tour groups and the school groups. Windows of photo freedom are usually only open for 6.7 seconds.
