This is Toji, which contains Japan's tallest pagoda, located in Southern Kyoto. We spotted it from the Kyoto Station Sky Garden at night; it seemed pretty large compared to the rest of the Kyoto cityscape. Piquing our interest, we went looking for it and after a short train journey and a brief walk we hit an intersection in the road and bang, there it was.
I'm not sure if you can really appreciate the scale of the pagoda from this picture but when I took this picture I thought: wow, that's big. Insert more colourful language as appropriate.
